• OUR HUMBLE BEGINNING

  September 2008, WORTHY Women was started by a Board of Directors who said “Enough is enough.” We were tired of hearing about how “We need something like this,” but nothing was being done. We are Christians who love all people.
  OUR MISSION: WORTHY Women Recovery Home Inc. (will be) is a Christian home that provides recently incarcerated women with re-entry programs and the tools necessary to reduce recidivism rates, substance abuse and addictions, and to empower them to live as positive role models for their children and in their community.
  Too many of our ladies are trapped in the recidivism (re-arrest) cycle. They leave jail or prison broken, hurting, and isolated. They have nowhere to go but back to the same environment that contributed to their incarceration. I teach bible study at the LaPorte Jail and they do come back to jail, even a week after being released. They need a place to go, to heal, to learn structure, to understand what the future has for them. We will offer this in a safe and sober residential living environment which will give them hope for a future; and teach them the tools needed to become self-sufficient, positive, value driven members of society. We will teach them appropriate interaction with their children and family, as well as interacting in appropriate, healthy and positive relationships.

  We desire to partner with the churches, businesses, the courts, our whole community. Why? BECAUSE it takes all of us. We quit talking and started doing. Please join us. We have support from the Captain of the Jail and Members United Federal Credit Union (MUFCU). We are blessed with monthly donors. But it is not enough. We need everyone. We need our community to come together, to help our ladies and their children. The children suffer the most. We need your prayers. We need more monthly donations. We need a building. WE NEED HELP. Please join our team!

  THE PERCEPTION IS…

  “I think that an average citizen may tend to believe that drug/alcohol use is a choice rather than a disease, so although the statistics are staggering, I think most people would tend to initially think – Who cares, the girls choose to do drugs, & they deserve what they get.  Focusing on the difference in cost to an average tax payer, it makes it more obvious why citizens are being directly affected. It’s no longer an Us vs. Them thing; it’s a We’re in This Together thing.”  Jen. K. e-mail discussion regarding why
